Ali Ahmed Kurd

Ali ahmad Kurd is the former Vice Chairman of Pakistan Bar Council. He is known for his aggressive speeches and outspoken attitude towards the military regime of General Pervaiz Musharraf. He served as a lawyer on lead counsel for the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Mr Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the reference filed against him by General Pervez Musharraf. along with the CJP and other lawyers in his defense team, Mr Kurd has been addressing the Pakistani nation on the issue of judicial independence in various bar councils.
60-year old flamboyant lawyer firebrand, Ali Ahmed Kurd, has spent most of his life in judicial activism and fighting dictatorship. He went to jail for the first time when he was merely a 17-year old student in Mustang district of Baluchistan. For him, that was understandable as he came from a highly respected political family of Baluchistan and participated in anti-government agitations from teenage days. Baluchistan's illustrated politician, Mir Abdul Aziz Kurd, who along with Mir Yousaf Aziz Magasi, pioneered a culture of political resistance in the present day Baluchistan, was his uncle. Kurd credits his early day detentions for his today's fearlessness. Jails, he says, no longer frighten him as he has spent more than six and a half years of his life in the jail.
Kurd has been an active lawyers' leader since 1980s but he came to limelight after the eruption of last year's judicial crisis in the country. Once President Pervez Musharraf decided to oust former Supreme Court Chief Justice, Mr. Ifthakar Mohammad Chaudhary, on March 9 last year, Kurd's fiery speeches fueled the lawyers' unprecedented movement for the reinstatement of the CJP.

?People like Kurd are a rare specie in Pakistan. He right to say that judiciary of pakistan is not functioning the way it should have been. In my opinion a judge should unbiased, innocent, should not attend state and social functions except his/her very close relations,should not see political debate on tv and not read political reviews on news papers. This is why Kurd has criticized the judges that they are influenced by tv progammes and news papers articles.The supreme court should stop TV anchors presenting lopsided political programmes and present balanced programmes where both parties are given chance to present and defend themselves.Such lopsided Shaheen Sahbai,Insar Abbasi etc.

With due respect to Mr. Ali Ahmed kurd, what he has done to abolish karo kari in his own province and sardari nizam. If he can mobilize lawyers against two presidents of a country and succeeds. It is very astonishing that he is unable to mobilize lawyers and civil societies from to Baluchistan to abolish karo kari and punish those who are killing woman and men who want to live their life by their choice. If so far he has not started any movement for these innocent people from his own home, then his role torch bearer for justice becomes doubtful.

For Mr. Shahid Siddique.., Sir, Movement for Justice is not the restoration of CJ, it is for the rule of law and against the illegal actions of Nov2, if u want to remove the CJ, a lawfull course of action as per the constitution / law has to be followed. If u are sure that CJ has such property give the evidance to the ruling party and advise them to launch a case accordingly and punish the culprit (if proved) through a judiciary recognized by the masses.

I am living in Dubai since last five years, and believe me I didn't apply and want to come and work at DXB, I was very happy at LHE, but my company Singapore Airlines transfer me from Pakistan to Dubai, and I am assuring to all my country people the moment my posting period over, I will pickup and go back to my country.
